August Update - Progress and Map System
8 months ago – Wed, Aug 30, 2023 at 03:15:17 AM

Hello elementalists! 👋

This is a very short update. I'll be having some days off until September 9th and I wanted to get as much work done as possible before I leave (I'm actually leaving in a couple hours as I'm writing this). I haven't had much time to write and record stuff for this update I'm afraid.

August Progress

In August I've been mostly focused on hooking things up. I'm preparing a build with a very significant portion of the game completed so we can test everything thoroughly and in context (as it's not the same to test features or mechanics in isolation).

While doing this, I've been iterating on level design, solving a few bugs and mostly worked on improving performance. As Switch is the weaker platform we are supporting, I've spent a lot of time with it. We are getting closer to secure 60 fps everywhere, but there is still work to do to ensure that, as there are some places with lots of objects or enemies that make the fps drop a tiny bit. I'm happy though, since everywhere that drops below 60 stays very close to 60.

Map

Something I can show you though, is the map system. Inspired by metroidvanias like Hollow Knight, you'll be able to purchase maps from Xan, the cartographer.

Have you met Xan?

You'll be able to place markers on the map. If you find a treasure that you can't access yet, it's a good reminder to come back later.

We still have to work on the aesthetic (mainly the borders and the texture before you buy the map), but I'm happy about how it is turning out. It's kind of cute to see the map miniaturized like this. Can't wait to see all Elregir like this!

This is everything for this month. See you all on September! 👋
