100% FUNDED IN 24 HOURS! Thank you! What a great start!
almost 3 years ago – Thu, May 27, 2021 at 11:11:01 PM

It's been 24 hours now and we're already funded! Thank you so much!

It's been absolutely crazy. As I'm writing this, you are 384 backers and we've been 100% funded.

The response has been overwhelmingly good and I know I'm repeating myself a lot, but again, thank you. It feels very rewarding to work so hard on your own project and see that people like it. There's also a lot of comments here on Kickstarter and on our social media! I try to answer everyone but if it takes a while, bear with me, I'll do my best :)

First Stretch Goal Reveal: "Hero Mode"

Seems like a good time to start revealing these juicy Stretch Goals we have prepared. The first one is "Hero Mode"!

Hero Mode will be a mode where you take double damage and you can't get hearts as loot from breaking objects, cutting grass or when an enemy dies. You'll need to recover your health using other means, like potions or the Nature Element itself.

We will be revealing more Stretch Goals during the campaign :)

Thank you again for believing in us and supporting us in such an amazing way! Stay tuned because you will be hearing from us again very soon :)

We have reached 5 Stretch Goals! Onto the last Stretch Goals!
almost 3 years ago – Thu, May 27, 2021 at 03:30:54 PM

Hello!

I'll start this update like all the previous Stretch Goals ones: thank you. We are 391% funded and you are 1767 backers right now. We are extremely happy for your trust and it's amazing to see this amount of support towards Elementallis.

We have surpassed 70000€ and Elementallis' experience will be spiced up with the new CRT Render Modes! We look forward to show you how the game looks with them activated.

Onto the next Stretch Goal!

Sixth Stretch Goal Reveal: "Bestiary and New Team Member"!

If this Stretch Goal is reached, we will add a bestiary to the game! It will expand the history of Elregir and the nature of its creatures. It will also keep track of the number of enemies you defeated of each type.

But that's not all! If we reach this milestone, we will be able to add a new member to the Team: a writer! They will help us with the structuring of the story, adding lore to the bestiary and writing the scenes. Does that mean that Elementallis won't have story if we don't reach this Stretch Goal? Absolutely not! But with their help as a professional writer, we will be able to deliver more quality in the dialogs and overarching story.

The Music of Elementallis
almost 3 years ago – Mon, May 24, 2021 at 10:39:26 PM

Hi there, it’s Raúl. Today we are going to talk about the music of Elementallis and how we are approaching it. And how Ivan forbade me to listen to Koji Kondo until the OST is finished!

Goals

The main goal is to create a music that is immersive but is also recognizable. To bring back those melodies that were part of our journeys that were also very important to us, but with a modern touch.

In order to accomplish this, we decided to blend orchestral instruments with 8 bit and 16 bit sounds, along with drums, guitars, synths, etc. This is not something new, of course, but in my mind, I wanted to accomplish what composers wanted to do in the 80s / early 90s but could not because of the hardware limitations.

These mentioned hardware limitations were important because the music had to be crafted accordingly. This is why Pokémon music is so influenced by Bach. The impossibility of playing multiple sounds (chords) at the same time, lead to a very creative use of counterpoint (who doesn’t remember Pokémon Center song?), making it a very distinguishing sound.

Nowadays we don’t have these limitations anymore (we can play as many sounds as we want at the same time), but we can’t forget these compositional techniques in order to match our expectations, what we listened to when we were kids. As Iván said in the previous update, is not how it looked or sounded, but how we believe it did!

Music direction and influence

In our early deliberations, we decided to stay away from Koji Kondo, a composer that we love. I personally am not that influenced by the Zelda tradition (I was more of a PlayStation boy!), but rather from a different one: the 90s top-down JRPGs, in particular, the Squaresoft ones. There are other influences that I’m letting step in, such as progressive rock, classic and romanticism music, and some other modern orchestral works, such as the ones from Guild Wars, Lineage 2, FFX, FFXII, FFXIII or Nier, which often have very immersive and evoking sounds.

How the music fits the game

There are other ideas that arise from modern games, such as Octopath Traveler, where every character has its own theme and instrument. We loved this idea and we decided to implement it with the Elementals. As every area has its own environment because of the Elemental, every area also has its own musicality, which also derives from the Elemental. This implies the use of the same melodies, motifs, instruments, etc, with multiple twists! Spoiler: the fire element motif is in F minor and is bonded to the violin and the trombone!

Another consideration that we took was to purposively write long loopable songs (> 3 minutes) with multiple and distinct sections. Because the player will stay in an area for a very long time with the same music (enemies are part of the environment without triggering a battle mode), we could not afford to repeat the same song a hundred times without sounding repetitive. So even though it is the same song, we wanted to make it long enough that the player would not realize if the song has changed or if it is the same one!

Friends of the project

Before I wrap up, I want to take a moment to show you a couple friends of the campaign:

It's easy to play. The Investor reveals an illustrated invention card. Players become the Inventor and channel their inner hustler, comedian and entrepreneur to pitch the most outrageous - or accurate - explanation of WHAT THE WHAT?!! is that?

Check our What the What?! 's campaign!

So that’s it for today! I hope my music could help transmit all the love that we are putting into Elementallis and improve the overall experience!

almost 3 years ago – Fri, May 21, 2021 at 11:26:17 AM

Hello!

Thanks to you, we've hit our fourth Stretch Goal and there's still 16 days until the campaign finishes! We are blown away by all of your support. We are now 334% funded and you are 1479 backers :D

Thank you very much!

Since we surpassed the 60000€ milestone, we will have Pixel Art Cutscenes in Elementallis! We are very excited to start working on them ^^

Let's announce the next Stretch Goal!

Fifth Stretch Goal Reveal: "CRT Render Mode"

If this Stretch Goal is reached, we will add a few alternative render modes that will make Elementallis look like it was displayed on a CRT TV screen! You already know we are very nostalgic about the 8 and 16 bit era, and we think this render mode will be a great complement. This mode will be optional, you will be able to play Elementallis on its default render mode.

This is how we would like it to look:

This picture is just a mockup, the CRT Render Mode hasn't been developed yet
